For Ep 192, we sat down with Mitchell Young, Marketing Manager at Whitecap Entertainment, to talk about Sommo Festival, the new Dance Your Way to Sommo contest, sombr, and why this festival keeps getting it so damn right.
If you've been listening to our show for a while, you already know that Cait has been talking about Sombr for a LONG time. Cherise has basically been forced to become a fan by proximity at this point because Cait has been playing his music for over a year.
We've been raving about his songwriting, his music-making capabilities and where we think this guy is headed. So having sombr come to this side of Canada — and to Sommo — is pretty freaking cool!!!!!!! JUST SAYING!
THEY'RE ALWAYS A LITTLE AHEAD OF THE CURVE
One of the things we love about Sommo is that they have a serious knack for bringing artists who are super hard working and about to be HUGE to the region before they are blowing up the charts, before they are selling out stadiums, and there’s something super cool about that. The people behind Sommo actually love music, they love people and they are proud of what they have built, so it showcases massively when they bring artists that a lot of us would never get the chance to see right in the one of the most beautiful places in Canada. That is rad let us just say!
They aren't just looking at who's already at the top of the charts. They're paying attention to what's happening next. That is what is cool about festivals.
That's one of the reasons we've been going back for years. We have seen incredible artists like Hozier, Greta Van Fleet, The Beaches and so many more.

Sommo has officially launched Dance Your Way to Sommo, inspired by Sombr's upcoming appearance on September 12.

WHY SOMMO IS OUR FAVOURITE
We've been going to Sommo for years, and it has become our favourite festival for a reason. Actually many. Let’s be right real as we always are..
It's the kindness. From the moment you enter the gate, smiles sometimes hugs, sometimes just nice clear directions and assistance, which is honestly so refreshing instead of just being thrown into long lines and into chasos lol.
It's how thoughtful everything feels. The vendors. The music. The places to sit and rest. The media tent. The little details you don't always notice until you've been to enough festivals to realize just how much thought went into making the entire experience good.
It always feels welcoming and super considerate. We look forward to the festival every year.
Plus, there is nothing better than going to a festival for one artist and leaving with three new favourites. You might discover a band you've never heard before. Make a new friend in the crowd that becomes friend for life. Eat something you realize you need to start eating way more of. Hear a song that becomes attached to an entire weekend.
