Episode 193: Ben Murphy on Music, Festivals & Bringing Everyone Together

Strange Crew, BEN MURPHY IS BACK!

If you've been listening to us for a while, you already know Ben. We've had him on the show a few times now, and we always have a wicked time chatting with him.

We managed to steal a few minutes between Cavendish Beach Music Festival and Sommo to talk music, festival logistics, what's new this year, artists he's excited about, food, stages, vendors, and of course... Sombr.

You can go back and listen to our last chat with Ben about Cavendish Beach Music Festival right here — and if you really want to get into the Sommo archives, we also had Ben on our 2024 Sommo episode with Norter and Maggie Andrew.

SO... WHAT IS SOMBR GOING TO DO?

If you haven't seen sombr's recent festival entrances yet, GO WATCH THEM. This man is showing up IN A CAR. ON THE STAGE.

👉 Watch sombr at Lollapalooza

👉 Watch sombr at Osheaga

So obviously, we had to ask Ben what the hell he thinks might happen when sombr rolls into Cavendish. BECAUSE ICONIC!!!!!!

SOMMO JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER

We talked about the improvements they've made this year, new stage, more vendors, food, seating and all the different ways you can experience the festival.

And yes, we talked about the food. Because obviously they go all out and even have the culinary stage. And you guys GO GET THE LEMONADE!!!!! Some of the best lemon juice you will ever have in your life!

Whether you want to be right in the pit, find somewhere to sit and take it all in, wander between stages, eat your way through the weekend or build yourself a slightly fancier festival experience, Sommo has options. And that's something we really love about it. It’s safe and easy to walk around and get to what you need. That is huge for us.

BEN GETS IT

We've gotten to know Ben over the years, and one thing is VERY obvious: this guy loves music, loves community and loves having a good time.

And you can feel that in what he's built with Whitecap Entertainment. The whole is super sweet and kind and you know they like doing this vs doing it to make money, doing it because they have too, doing it for any other motive than just moving and grooving together over good tunes.

He brings the whole Island — and everyone who can get there — together. That's a very Maritime way of doing things, and honestly, we dig it and love being part of Atlantic Canada and the people we get to meet within it too. It’s a damn good time and you should meet us there.

That's Sommo.
